I do not support the allocation of 2A funding for the proposed Mad Rabbit project due to the lack of seasonal closures of the trail to protect critical breeding and calving grounds of Elk May 15 – June 15 and September 15- October 15. The forest service has these protective measures on Spring Creek and Buff Pass, but has not made this practice required in this proposal. Without seasonal closures, we are not working with nature to balance recreation with critical habitat needs. Voting yes on this proposal will have a harmful impact on elk population, when mitigation efforts could be an easy addition to this proposal to work in concert with nature to preserve our natural resources while providing new recreational opportunities.
